Rays Of HopeOur members dedicate many hours to public service each year to accomplish Black Professional Men (BPM’s) objectives and goals. BPM’s membership includes dozens of dedicated men who come from a variety of professions, including barbers, attorneys, teachers, engineers, architects, financial advisors, councilmen and entrepreneurs. We collectively volunteer several hours each month to mentor and tutor young men, promote and teach economic development to the Baltimore community, and engage government officials in dialogue for solutions to issues and problems that impact both the African-American male and community at large.
We fund our mission through the financial support of the BPM membership, corporations, charitable foundations, and patrons of our mentoring and tutoring programs. The Rays of Hope event has direct influence on our mission statement, “To Ensure the Future of The African American Male”. The Rays of Hope Breakfast allows BPM to assist young African-American men with the necessary emotional and financial support toward their quest for higher education. We seek and welcome your support in helping us to continue our mission.

Thank you,
Members of Black Professional Men, Inc.

The Rays of Hope Scholarship Breakfast

Annually, nearly 500 people come together in June to celebrate and honor the winners of Black Professional Men Inc.’s Rays of Hope Awards and Scholarships. The Rays of Hope (ROH) Awards are presented to outstanding African-American men who have excelled in their professions, and who serve as role models to younger men and boys. ROH awards are given for exceptional achievement in the categories of education, government, medicine, business, religion, and community and charitable services. Past winners include Congressman Elijah Cummings, Dr. Freeman HrabowskiIII, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and William Jews, former President and CEO of Carefirst Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Maryland.

The Rays of Hope Breakfast is an opportunity for Black Professional Men, Inc. to showcase its mentoring program, and to offer scholarships to deserving Black male students from the Baltimore metropolitan area. In the past fourteen years, Black Professional Men Inc. has awarded scholarships to more than
90 deserving African-American male high school graduates.

This year marks the 18
th anniversary of the Rays of Hope Breakfast. In honor of this important occasion, our goal is to award $13,000 in scholarships. Meeting this goal will bring the total amount of scholarship funds awarded during the past sixteen years to over $130,000.
In order to achieve this goal, and to celebrate the 18
th anniversary of the event, BPM has planned a spectacular weekend of fun, informative, and inspiring events. The weekend will begin with a networking social on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, where our sponsors will have the opportunity to meet and greet current and past BPM scholars and award winners. The weekend will culminate with the Rays of Hope Awards and Scholarship Breakfast which will take place on Saturday, June 18th, 2011 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Both events will take place at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel, 101 West Fayette Street in downtown Baltimore.
We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there!
