| The Rays of Hope Scholarship Breakfast Annually, nearly 500 people come together in June to celebrate and honor the winners of Black Professional Men Inc.’s Rays of Hope Awards and Scholarships. The Rays of Hope (ROH) Awards are presented to outstanding African-American men who have excelled in their professions, and who serve as role models to younger men and boys. ROH awards are given for exceptional achievement in the categories of education, government, medicine, business, religion, and community and charitable services. Past winners include Congressman Elijah Cummings, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, III, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and William Jews, former President and CEO of Carefirst Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Maryland. The Rays of Hope Breakfast is an opportunity for Black Professional Men, Inc. to showcase its mentoring program, and to offer scholarships to deserving Black male students from the Baltimore metropolitan area. In the past fourteen years, Black Professional Men Inc. has awarded scholarships to more than 90 deserving African-American male high school graduates. This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Rays of Hope Breakfast. In honor of this important occasion, our goal is to award $13,000 in scholarships. Meeting this goal will bring the total amount of scholarship funds awarded during the past sixteen years to over $130,000. In order to achieve this goal, and to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the event, BPM has planned a spectacular weekend of fun, informative, and inspiring events. The weekend will begin with a networking social on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, where our sponsors will have the opportunity to meet and greet current and past BPM scholars and award winners. The weekend will culminate with the Rays of Hope Awards and Scholarship Breakfast which will take place on Saturday, June 18th, 2011 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Both events will take place at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel, 101 West Fayette Street in downtown Baltimore. We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there! |
